Bye-Bye Plastic Hello BYO is a Better Business Partnership (BBP) project. BBP is joint Council funded by Ku-ring-gai, North Sydney and Willoughby City Councils (with support from the NSW EPA) established to promote and support local businesses to become more successful through sustainability.

Willoughby City Council is the legal entity hosting the Bye-Bye Plastic website and as such the Privacy Policy is in line with the Willoughby City Council Privacy Management Plan as outlined below.

Privacy and Personal Information Protection Act

The Privacy and Personal Information Protection Act 1998 introduces a range of responsibilities for local councils in New South Wales when dealing with ‘personal information’. The Act establishes 12 ‘Information Protection Principles’ and also prescribes what ‘personal information’ may be accessed from a Public Register. ‘Personal information’ is any information that identifies – or could lead to the identification of – a person. The information may be held in hard or electronic copy.

Information obtained through this campaign will be disclosed and used by personnel of the Better Business Partnership, the Councils and others connected with the program but otherwise will be treated as confidential and dealt with in accordance with the Privacy and Personal Information Act 1998.

The contact details including email, address and telephone numbers collected as part of the project will be used to assist the Better Business Partnership to assess and implement measures for and to track and measure the impact of the Bye-Bye Plastic campaign through behavioural changes and improvements undertaken as part of the Bye-Bye Plastic campaign

Names, contact details and other personal information

For Bye-Bye Plastic, Businesses will be asked to provide their address and full contact details including digital addresses. The business will be identified on the Bye-bye plastic map and may be promoted or featured as a bye-bye plastic business by Better Business Partnership.

Individuals pledging as Shoppers will be asked to provide as mandatory fields: contact name, email address and suburb/postcode/state/country details with optional telephone number for contact. This is for the purpose of collecting and measuring data in relation to the impact and reach of the Bye-bye Plastic campaign and contacting those who wish to become local champions for the campaign.

How will this ‘Personal Information’ be used?

Better Business Partnership is hosted by Willoughby City Council and hence the Personal Information collected will be collected under the legal policies of that organisation.
When seeking ‘personal information’ Council will advise you how that information will be used, whether it is being requested voluntarily or you are legally obliged to provide the information. Your ‘personal information’ will not be on-sold. It will be passed onto another government agency only where it is necessary for such agency to have this information to fulfil its functions. Council will collect only that information required for the purpose, ie. excessive or superfluous information will not be collected, and the information will be held only as long as necessary.

How do I know what ‘Personal Information’ is held about me?
Subject to various legislative exemptions, you are entitled to know what ‘personal information’ about you may be held by Council and to access that information. If the ‘personal information’ is not correct then Council must amend it and, if practicable, advise any other parties that may have received this inaccurate information. Application forms are available from Council’s Administrative Offices. Access to documents and records may also be provided under Freedom of Information legislation and various provisions of the Local Government Act and the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act.

CONSENT FOR THE COLLECTION AND USE OF INFORMATION

By accessing the www.byebyeplastic.com.au website to make a pledge or to download free resources, I authorise BBP to collect and use information about me / my business for the purpose of collecting and measuring data for the Bye-bye Plastic campaign. I also agree to be contacted by BBP for the purposes of the BBP program or for the Bye-bye Plastic campaign.

I understand that information collected that is not personal information or commercial in confidence, such as, but not limited to, business trading name; physical address; phone number; business website URL; and business Facebook URL, may be published by BBP as a public record of my membership with the program. This information may also be used by the Councils and the NSW EPA to contact you in relation to other programs and services provided or facilitated by the Councils, unless the business indicates in writing or via email otherwise.

I also give BBP permission in relation to the Bye-Bye plastic campaign to promote my business in relation to success about reducing single use plastic, unless I have indicated in writing or via email otherwise.
