Make a Pledge Making a pledge is not about never using single-use plastics, but rather taking small steps and making conscious changes towards reducing our dependence on single-use plastic. Are you pledging as a:businessshopperWe are ready to start reducing the amount of single-use plastic that we, as a business, consume. Whether we are a cafe, childcare, office-based or online business, there are actions that we can take to start this journey. These include: As a conscious shopper, I want to start my journey towards reducing the amount of single-use plastic that I use on a daily basis. This can be done when I'm out-and-about, at work, and at home. I know that this is a process and nothing happens overnight, but I make the pledge to start saying Bye Bye Plastic now. I will do this by;Front-of-House Asking customers if they need a bag before offering, and encouraging them to bring their own next time Only handing out straws and cutlery when requested Rewarding customers who bring their own cup or container with discounts Offering reusable items for regular customers to borrow and return when they forget to bring their own Replacing current single-use plastic items with plastic-free alternative Charging for single-use plastic items as an incentive to BYO Displaying signs to educate customers of the dangers of single-use plastic Out-and-About Remembering to bring reusable shopping bags to the supermarket or simply carrying my items when I forget Buying fresh, loose items or bringing my own jars and containers to bulk stores instead of buying food wrapped in plastic Buying bread or loose items in canvas bags or paper instead of plastic produce bags Sitting down at a cafe to have a drink instead of taking it in a disposable cup to go (or BYO cup) Bringing a water bottle that can be refilled at water fountains and taps instead of buying plastic bottles Saying 'no straw please' when ordering drinks, and bringing your own reusable straw if you wish Keeping a set of reusable cutlery with you so that you can refuse disposables when eating out Bringing your own container when ordering take-out food - most cafes and restaurants will be surprisingly accommodating! Refusing other single-use plastic items e.g. sushi fish, sauce packets, individually wrapped confectionary Snapping, tagging and sharing photos of business and fellow shoppers living single-use plastic free! #byebyeplastic #helloBYO At Work Preparing my lunch the night before or in the morning to avoid going out to buy food wrapped in plastic Bringing a reusable coffee cup or taking a mug from the office kitchen to get my coffee in Sitting down at a cafe or restaurant to enjoy my lunch instead of taking it to go when I do forget my own container or cup Back-of-House Providing reusable cups, plates and glasses for employees to use Encouraging employees to bring lunch in plastic-free containers with rewards and incentives Providing tea and coffee making facilities to reduce disposable cups Educating and train staff on the importance of reducing single-use plastic Organising staff clean ups and be apart of Clean Up Australia Day to help reduce plastic pollution Buying soaps and other detergents in bulk Installing recycling stations with clear signage to encourage appropriate waste segregation Not providing plastic bags, single-use cutlery, or plates, glad-wrap or aluminium foil Providing reusable gloves (if single-use gloves are necessary in your business) Requesting reduced or reusable packaging from suppliers Collecting soft plastics for RedCycle and eligible drinks containers for Return and Earn deposit At Home Investing in a few reusable or biodegradable straws (if you have a compost) to drink smoothies and juice Using bars of soap and shampoo/conditioner bars instead of those that come in plastic bottles, and using soap berries instead of washing detergent. Alternatively, plastic soap dispensers can be refilled with good quality, toxin-free soaps at bulk food stores Having a stock of good quality containers and jars that can be used to store leftover food and food bought in bulk or plastic-free Buying or making beeswax wraps to store food instead of plastic Making my own deodorant, makeup, toothpaste Buying plastic free household items next time I am in need, including toothbrush, clothes pegs, dish brushes, razor, cotton buds Segregating recycling appropriately and collecting soft plastics to be deposited with RedCycle (at Coles and Woolworths). Eligible drink containers can be deposited at Return and Earn stations for 10c refund OtherTell us some other ways that you have/will reduce single-use plastic.OtherTell us some other ways that you
